Incident Synopsis
The Charlotte Fire Dept took numerous 911 calls around 2:45 am Wednesday morning reporting a house on fire in the 500 block of Iverson Way. As members of the CFD arrived they reported a 2-story house under construction fully involved with fire, and flames reaching occupied homes on either side. At least four (4) homes near the initial structure fire were able to evacuate on their own. Shorty after CFD companies were knocking down fire conditions; hot fire embers, carried by wind, reached nearby brush and the roof of a 1-story home in the 400 block of Atherton Street. Additional CFD companies responded quickly to control the fire conditions that resulted in roof and attic damage to the home on Atherton St. This multi-alarm incident was under control in about 90 minutes with 58 firefighters called in to service. The Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force completed the own scene fire investigation late this afternoon as the work into the origin and cause still continues.
