Incident Synopsis
Just after 1:00 am Saturday morning, the first of 3 calls into the Charlotte Fire 911 center reported an apartment on fire at the “Silver Oak Apartments”. As firefighters were heading to the scene information was shared from 911 that occupants of the apartment were trapped inside. Fire crews from nearby Charlotte Fire Station # 3 arrived to report a 2-story apartment at 6609 Monroe Rd engulfed in flames. Members of the CFD advanced hose lines into the burning unit to knock down the intense fire conditions and search for the trapped occupants. The mother and her 2 children, ages 13 and 2 were removed from their fire and smoke filled home. Tragically, the Charlotte Fire Dept reports that three (3) members of this family lost their lives as a result of this over night fire in East Charlotte. The 18-year old son who was at home when the fire began was able to call 911 and escaped the burning apartment. Throughout this difficult ordeal the young man, the lone survivor of this family was able to receive care and support by Mecklenburg Counties Mobile Crisis Team, the American Red Cross, and the Charlotte Fire Dept.
